Acer Travelmate 6493 Laptop computer Review

The Acer Travelmate 6493 comes from a long line of business-oriented Acer netbooks . What features can you expect to access from the 6493? Would it be worth the money you invest for it? This review will present to you the features, the pros, the cons and what we think about the 6493.

Battery life     Up to 7.5 hours depending on battery type

Graphics     Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD

PROS:

Like all the other Travelmate notebook computers, the 6493 has its strongest point in its security features. This is designed to protect from information theft, which can actually bring a business down if the important information falls into the wrong hands. The 6493 has every security feature that you need, including a fingermark reader and a feature designed to prevent data-loss from shock: the Hard disk drive Anti-Shock Protection which is certainly proprietary to Acer and will be found in all its offerings.

Though its screen is smaller than its siblings at only 14.1 in, it more than makes up for that drawback by having a very good resolution of 1200×800. This resolution makes for excellent details and graphics, plus giving the user enough room to place windows side by side to aid in his multitasking requirements.

The screen is also backlit by white light emitting diodes. This may reduce the glare that could be produced when the sun is behind the user's back. This would happen when taking the netbook and using it outdoors, and the backlit can surely help reduce the irritating and distracting glare from the sun.

The 6493 has enough battery life for mobile usage. The nine-cell configuration allows the user to use the laptop for up to 7 hrs and 30 minutes as estimated by the manufacturer.

Convenience and ease of usage is what one can expect from the 6493. It has several function keys that can help access important programs easily. As an example, it has easy launch buttons that can invoke the web browser or email client with one push. This allows for faster operation since the user does not have to manually open the executable file.

Last but not the least, the 6493 features drivers and software to allow it to be hooked up to an external display. This is very handy in business meetings where you may need to plug the laptop to a projector.

CONS:

Although it comes with several connectivity features including support for plugging in to a separate monitor, the 6493 lacks an HDMI port to connect the laptop to an HDTV.

A feature shared by other Travelmate series laptops is the integrated graphics card. This hampers or limits its ability to process graphics. Though you can play older and lighter games on the 6493, you mustn't try to play the later games notably the ones that feature 3 dimensional processing because you will be sorely disappointed with the 6493.

CONCLUSION:

Looking at its pros and cons, we can conclude that the Travelmate 6493 is an excellent option for those who are looking to use a laptop for mostly for business functions as that is definitely not for gaming. Despite a serious lack in graphics processing power,  the 6493 is still formidable with all its security features plus its convenience in usage. The business person will surely appreciate the ease and the convenience in using the 6493.

2 Average E-Mail Troubles and What To Do About Them

When it works well, e-mail can be great.  It's hard to beat e-mail for everything from staying in touch with family to requesting information from businesses or other organizations.  Want to send the same message to individual people?  Communicate with someone across the continent?  Transmit pictures, manuscripts or other information?  For speed and efficiency, this virtually instantaneous medium is one of the almost favourable features of modern life.

But e-mail is not without problems.  If you key in the name of an intended recipient but your message keeps bouncing back, you might not be singing e-mail's praises.  Ditto for attachments that won't open or other such nuisances.  With just a little patience, though, you can readily overcome most e-mail problems.  What follows are 4 common e-mail problems along with solutions for overcoming them.

Problem – Returned Messages

This may be the most frustrating of all e-mail problems.  After taking the time to create a message, you click on the “send” button and consider your task accomplished.  But the next thing you know, the message pops up in your in-box with a heading that it did not reach its intended recipient.

Solutions

First, take the simple step of checking to see that the address of your recipient has been entered correctly.  This may seem manifest, but sometimes the only thing wrong is a misplaced letter, the use of “com” instead  of “net”, or some similar error.  If you know the correct address, this is a straightforward matter of double checking each character.  If not, you might need to experiment by sending multiple messages, or by entering alternative addresses with slight variations.  Under this approach, you only keep track of which messages are bounced back and compare them with the overall list of addresses you used.  If you sent four variations but only three were returned, you have solved the problem by the process of elimination.

Sometimes the source of your problem lies with the recipient.  If messages to other addresses go through but fail here, try to contact the intended recipient by other means and report the situation.  The cause may range from a temporary problem with the recipient's server to a switch to another e-mail provider, to a full in box.  In this case, simply waiting may be the best recourse.  Or a phone call or other communication may be required on your part to obtain the correct e-mail address.  If all your messages are being returned, you may have a connection problem.  See below for more details.

Problem 2 – You Have Lost Your Connection

Sometimes a failure to send or receive e-mail can be traced to a lost connection with your Net service provider.

Solutions

If you see a “failure to connect” or “no response” message or have otherwise determined that you have failed to connect, double check to make certain there are no physical problems.

First, check your cables and connections.  If you use a dial-up modem, listen to make sure it produces the normal high-pitched dialing sound.  If not, the problem could be a loose connection.  Locate the phone cord that runs from the back of your computer to the phone jack, and then make sure that each end is plugged in snugly.

If you will don't hear the expected dialing sound, check to make sure your phone cord is undamaged.  If it seems worn, replace it with a new one.  Other steps include making certain the line is plugged into the right port, and checking the phone jack by plugging the cord into a unique jack.  If you hear the dialing sound after any of these steps, you have made a prosperous connection.

Connection problems may be more common with dial-up modems than with broadband connections, but the latter are also dependent on physical connections.  A loose wire or poorly connected cable can easily be problematic.  Sometimes a glitch occurs that can be greatest addressed by repeating portions of the initial set-up process.  A simple fix touted by Verizon technical service reps for some DSL (digital subscriber line) customers is to disconnect the three lines from the back of the modem and then reconnect them in a specified order.  When this action is taken, the online connection is immediately regained.

If you are online but keep getting bumped off, the lost connection can be the result of an unintended software command.  In Outlook Express, For Instance, you will find the command “Hang up when finished.”  If the box in front of this phrase is checked, the connection will mechanically be severed each time you send or download e-mail.  Sometimes a misdirected click of your mouse will cause you to place a check in the box even though you do not realize it.  Simply click on the check mark to make it disappear, and the hang-ups will cease.

These 2 common e-mail troubles are quite easy to determine and when rectified will make your emailing experience more gratifying.

Asus Eee PC picture released before Computex

With Computex ready to begin, companies are attempting to build hype for their products and get all the attention they may during the actual event. On their mini netbook computer front, Asus will probably introduce a couple of spanking new Eee PC machines, one of them being an unnamed, ultra thin mini netbook, which was leaked the other day.

The white machine looks like a 10 inch laptop with a slightly different design (but keeps the acclaimed Seashell flag up) in comparison with other netbooks, and of course is way thinner than what we have right now. We'll figure that out from the ratio the solo Universal serial bus port on display occupies in the edge; there is certainly almost no plastic left above and underneath the port, so we'll kind of assume how thin the body is. Actually, the build is even thinner towards the palm rest, which looks like it's MBA territory.

There's also an audio jack by the Usb port, while a fan covers the rest of the left side, all the way to the rounded edge. As for internals, we will only speculate; considering how slim the machine is, you're likely to probably get the lowest power consuming kind of chip, as the battery will most likely pack less cells than what we normally get on 10 inches machines. But if we're to take a chance, this might pack an Advanced Micro Devices Fusion chip, as the Accelerated Processing Units is smaller than Atom chips and requires less power to run (not to imply it has Hi-def graphics).

The innovative new Asus ultra thin netbook computer will probably pack Advanced Micro Devices hardware

The motto associated with the machine is a super slim sensation with a twist, which might refer to the os, that can be other than Windows Operating-system. I am just thinking Chrome Operating-system, but the viewing angle is too sharp to take a look at the key board and spot the Chrome Os specific keys. This will likely be another explanation for the ultra thin profile, as you really don't need a large Hard drive, considering most of your data is stored online. The twist could allegedly report some type of build gimmick, but no hinge under the screen is visible, so we won't label this as a could well be convertible.

Besides this, Asus's Teaser Week also included a tablet that may be said to be both phone and tablet (or the tablet might have a docking station for a phone), and also a spanking new family of all in one desktop Pcs. We can know more as Computex kicks off, and of course we'll keep you posted throughout the event.

Similarities Between Women and Computers

Before you read any further, please note that this is not a piece out to damage or cut down the important role of women in our society. Read below only as humour and nothing more. These are intended solely for a good laugh.

Women are unique in many ways (and by this I mean different than men) and its this specific uniqueness or certain traits that I refer to when likening a woman to a personal computer. Do not get offended; it is intended to create a smile.

1) A woman is like a computer in that she costs more than you thought it would.

2) A woman resembles a personal computer in that she will not do exactly what you thought it will.

3) After a while, you simply cannot do without both: your computers and your woman.

4) Computers are just like women: after you have gotten used to them and cannot do without them, you discover that one is not enough.

5) Some computers, like some women, serve many people.

6) You can work miracles with both by gently using your fingers if you only know the proper code.

7) If you are inactive with them for more than fifteen minutes, they go off.

8) Just like a computer, the one who runs her has more privileges than just anyone else who is just running her.

9) When there are short-circuits of electricity, they shut you off and then you cannot always return to what was before the short-circuit.

10) Normally, they are available and receptive in the night, but it?¡¥s a lot better when they are available and receptive in the morning.

11) When you are, at last, sure that they will do what you wanted, they go off and do something else.

12) The only thing that you predict about the future with them is that they will react unpredictably.

13) Just like women, so too for computers: every year a new model is released that is younger, more advanced and gives a lot more.

14) A woman is just like a computer: you are happy with what you have but when you see what your friends have got, you are sure you want what they have.

15) Women are like computers in that no matter how much you improve and put into them, they only improve for a short time and then go back to their same old pace.

16) Women are like computers in that every day a new program comes out promising to revolutionize your knowledge and use of them, but after spending a lot more cash you realize that none of them work better than the old one you had before.

17) Women are like computers: you always want what others have and they want what you have but you cannot switch even for a trial basis.

18) Women are like computers in that when you get them you are sure that they are the best. But when the days go back, you wonder why you did not get them with a replacement note.
